Dr Mohd. Zaki Awg Isa (Head of Department of Optometry and Vision Science, MSU Mr Subhadeep Das ( Lecturer, Department of Optometry and Vision Science, MSU) MSU Optometry and Vision Science Exhibition and Seminar(MOVES) is jointly organized by MSU Eye Centre and Department of Optometry and Vision Science (DOVS) to provide a platform for updatingand exchanging knowledge among the community of optometrist, health care professionals, medical doctors, students, academicians and members of the public. The MOVES1.0consists of seminar, exhibition and community activities related to vision and eye health care. It was a two days seminar which comprised of undergraduates and postgraduates seminar and GERIATRIC seminar for optometrists and health professionals. Students’ seminar was held on 15th of June 2015 and the Geriatric Seminar was on the second day 16th of June. MOVES1.0 started with the Launching Ceremony by the President of MSU Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd. Shukri Ab Yajid. On the first day, seminar began with the talk by the director of MSU Eye Center and the Head of Department of Optometry and Vision Science, Dr Mohd. Zaki Awg Isa on ‘Managing Geriatric Patients: Towards Holistic Approach’, followed by presentation of the postgraduates and the undergraduate students of Optometry in Malaysia. They presented their research works and case studied. At the end of the first day there was a prize giving ceremony for the Best Research/case study category and the Best Presenters. The Geriatric Seminar on the second day aimed to create awareness on care and management of the elderly and portrays optometrist as a primary eye care. Managing geriatric population requires involvement of all eye care practitioners such as optometrist, ophthalmologist and other health care professionals. Hence this seminar provides a platform for exchanging and updating knowledge that will benefit everyone. The second day began with talks by Assoc. Prof. Dr Julie Mohamed on topic of ‘General Geriatric Care Management’ followed by an internationally renowned speakers, Assoc. Prof Datuk Rokiah Omar, and ophthalmologists Dr Aloysius Joseph Low, Dr Ahmad Nurfahmi Akhtar Ali to mention a few. There were booth exhibitions from our sponsors like Alcon, Ziess, Focus Point, Igel, Vista Eye Specialist Hospital. There was an another event by the MSU optometry students called ‘Walk In the Dark’ where people were blindfolded and taken into a room and made to perform their day to day activities like Dinning and Housekeeping. This is part of the low vision and geriatric subject and it was prepared to give a feeling of how difficult it is for a blind man to perform all this.The MOVES1.0 was successfully organized and involved more than 250 participants.
